i'm thinking Hard about lucio and free will. and his characterization

like specifically with that Brainwash Humanity choice- i think he doesn't see it as Wrong so much as he is upset about betraying his creator.

i can see how he'd be all "oh yeah brainwashing is fine" given the basic facts of his existence: -created with an ongoing and constant Charm Person spell that he can't turn off -was not a person, but an extension of his creator's will. meant to preach his words and control others

so of course- of course someone like that wouldn't see that as a basic and fundamental violation of personhood and then the knife twist that this is his first real decision for himself

and then he just. is like "i should never decide anything ever again" and falls into 'stage manager with no personhood' role for thousands of years thereby falling back into upholding the denial of his own personhood again and so you have current lucio with the tension between his mask and his tentative push into becoming a person again where like you can tell that the closest bonds he has are with the people he chooses to be vulnerable with (so basically danchou- and a bit of shalem) but he refuses to be vulnerable or talk with shalem or sandalphon and that is clearly pushing them away- but he can't put down the mask- he sees his parallels with sandalphon but. doesn't realize that sandalphon doesn't see any of that. to build that bond with sandy that he so clearly wants- he needs to be vulnerable and honest. he hasn't quite put it together that that's why he has that bond with danchou- that his own vulnerability with danchou is what got him on the crew, that got him to start being a person

and also the ways in which this dishonesty is stimying his relationship with his sister shalem- who ostensibly should be his other half and closest companion like just- the way he refuses to seek outside help by talking to people. I think this is an extension of the brainwashing problem. Lucio fundamentally doesn’t believe people will help him or go along with his wishes without coercion ough.

and the way that lucio's apathy (and even antagonism) towards free will is then butting up against his newfound personhood and desires

It's the main setting for the Saga of Evil (Daughter of Evil, Servant of Evil, etc)

Was a Kingdom, had a selfish brat as its queen, which sparked a revolution (called Lucifenian revolution, lead by the Lucifenian resistance, oh look more possible candidates for this poll /j). Queen got overthrowned, Lucifenia got annexted to the nearby kingdom (whose King had helped with the revolution), but after little less than a century it gained indipendence again, this time as a republic. During this period it got hit by a string of murder cases caused by a criminal organization that had formed.

Two more centuries later, the country was starting to struggling and so joined with other nearby countries and they created the Union State of Evillious. I'll be honest I don't know much about this era, but something about zombie plague and civil unrest? The countries accousing each other of being the starting point of the zombie apocalypes? The eight century was Bad For Everyone. But don't worry! Year 999 brings Punishment (the apocalypse) and a new World (literally. I'm not sure on the details (this series is big and complex) but from what I understand it's a new dimension), so we don't need to worry about zombies anymore
